Bright, Cheerful Kids’ Room Ideas for Colorful, Playful Spaces

Oh, to live in paradise. Thanks to readers like Clara (love the name), we can live vicariously through their projects. Clara and her family live in the Dominican Republic, and she sent us photos of the stunning makeover she completed for her daughter Nadia’s bedroom. Here’s her note in her own words:

I’ve been reading your blog for a long time and thought you might like this makeover. We recently moved into a new home, and although our budget is tight, we refused to live in a drab space. After collecting furniture (we arrived with almost nothing), we turned our attention to our daughter’s bedroom, which desperately needed a burst of color to cure an acute case of “meh.”

Working with a budget of $100, I had my work cut out for me. Inspired by our tropical surroundings and armed with glue, fabric, and paint, I managed to create a space that’s both inspired and inspiring for my daughter.

I painted the room’s only full wall a bright blue (a local paint brand not available elsewhere) and refreshed the doors and closet with white latex paint. That was the most time-consuming and costly part of the project, but it made the biggest visual difference.

The dresser/nightstand is from Ikea; I painted it and covered two drawer fronts and the knobs with fabric. I also made new lampshades for inexpensive plug-in swing-arm lamps I found on eBay.

Almost everything was created using items I already had around the house, which kept costs low. I shared step-by-step instructions in my first blog post about the makeover, and there are additional after photos in the second post. – Clara, The Home in Paradise

We can’t help but daydream about island living when we see this cheerful, budget-friendly transformation. Clara’s use of fresh colors and resourceful solutions turned a plain room into a lively, personal space for Nadia. It’s a lovely reminder that a little paint, fabric, and creativity can go a long way.

Wishing everyone a fresh and happy weekend!
