Mastering Goal Tending: Techniques, Tips, and Drills for Goalies

Even though we’re still collecting and reviewing all of your fantastic suggestions from our reader poll, we thought it was time to set some clear goals as we head into year two of Young House Love.

Why tuck these goals into a notepad that could get lost when we can publish them for everyone to see—and give ourselves a little extra motivation? As we move forward as established bloggers, here are ten things we’d like to accomplish on the homestead and across the blog in the year ahead:

Get Your Read – We want to write more fun, interactive posts that invite readers to participate and spark creativity, similar to past features that led to surprising and inspiring follow-ups.

Change The Scenery – I’ll take on more of the video work so John can appear on camera more often in upcoming house tours and video features instead of me being the constantly overexposed face of the blog.

Listen Up – We’ve heard you: regular features like $0 room makeovers and a weekly deals roundup are popular ideas. Expect more of the content you’ve been asking for over the next 12 months.

Seriously Detox – We plan to embrace more eco-friendly products and practices and ask for plenty of reader input as we make greener choices around the house.

Kid Around – We’re eager to do a rapid, same-day kids’ room makeover—something quick, charming, and affordable for a child who would really benefit. Stay tuned for that project in the coming months.

Get The Goods – We’d like to expand our shop offerings beyond prints and portraits and eventually offer home accessories and accents that help people style their spaces with ease.

Tech Things Up – While we’re not planning 3-D or smell-o-vision just yet, we want to get savvier with technology so we can deliver richer, smoother content without technical roadblocks.

Be More Social – We aim to use social media more effectively—Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms—to share content, connect with readers, and respond more regularly.

Get Around – We’d love to visit and “house crash” more homes beyond our hometown—to share how people live across different cities and regions and bring a broader range of inspiration to the blog.

Enjoy The Ride – Blogging involves a lot of typing, editing, uploading, and the occasional technical headache, but we truly love this work. When things go wrong—servers acting up or posts disappearing—we want to remember how fortunate we are to do what we love.

What about you? Any goals for the next 366 days (thanks, leap year!) that you want to share with the world? We’d love to hear them.
