Talking with Tiffani Thiessen: Behind the Scenes and New Projects

Here are the show notes for Episode #6 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. In this episode we chat with Tiffani Thiessen about designing her kitchen, cooking for guests on her show Dinner at Tiffani’s, and play a Saved By The Bell–inspired decorating quiz. We also discuss a major construction project John is tackling, share an embarrassing realtor story, and explain how Nate Berkus influenced Sherry’s bathroom choices.

What’s New

  • We used these clippers and these branch cutters to trim our front landscaping (we bought both when we lived in our first house and they’ve lasted 9+ years). For smaller, detailed trimming tasks we use these pruning shears.

Hey Nate Berkus, We Tried It

  • After removing the labels from our shower bottles—following Nate Berkus’s aesthetic—the bottles paired well with our blue tile. One tube on the top shelf is a printed bottle with no removable label; it’s Sherry’s favorite face scrub. Overall: the bathroom still needs a full makeover, but the label removal got a B+.

Tiffani Thiessen Interview

  • See Tiffani’s home and more on her website, TiffaniThiessen.com.
  • Catch reruns of Dinner at Tiffani’s on the Cooking Channel (and sometimes the Food Network). Season 3 is expected later this year.
  • Tiffani’s house has appeared in Lonny Magazine and Family Circle, and her blog includes a tour of her son’s nursery. Below are photos of her kitchen and living room.
  • We also referenced a funny Jimmy Fallon clip during the episode.
  • These are the Saved By The Bell–inspired paint colors we used for the quiz: Kelly Green; Behr’s Bell Tower; Sherwin-Williams Lark Green (named after Lark Voorhies, who played Lisa Turtle); Behr’s Time Out; and Valspar’s Olive to the Max (inspired by The Max). There are two different “Bayside” colors: Valspar’s Bayside is teal, while Behr’s Bayside reads more like steel blue.

We’re Digging

  • Sherry sniff-tested candles during some solo Target time and liked a marble-scent candle and a pineapple-scent candle. She also picked up a jewelry cleaner she recommends.
  • We installed an Easy Light in our garage to brighten the space; there’s also a pull-chain version available if you prefer that option.

Psst—Looking for something we mentioned in an earlier episode but don’t remember which show notes include it? Here’s a master list of everything we’ve been digging from past episodes.
