Yes — Katie B (along with Will and Jeremy) drove up to Virginia to visit us last weekend. They surprised us, posed for photos in the yard holding large white signs, and generally made the visit a fun, creative weekend. We’ll share more about what we did later this week, but for now we’re launching the second Pinterest Challenge. It isn’t sponsored by Pinterest — we’re just big fans who love creating from our boards.

I’ve been an avid pinner for years, and when Katie suggested a seasonal challenge — to make at least one project inspired by something we’ve pinned — it felt like the perfect push to stop collecting ideas and start doing them. We first tried the challenge this summer with a project that turned into a memorable do-it-yourself experiment, so we’re excited to bring it back for fall.

The only rule is simple: recreate or reinterpret something you’ve pinned. It can be big or small, a decor piece, a sewing or cooking project, or anything else you find inspiring. In our first Pinterest Challenge, John and I made a clothespin light fixture for the laundry room. This season we wanted something that feels cozy and holiday-ready, so I’m planning to create a set of handmade ornaments that draw from several Pinterest ideas to give a “homemade for the holidays” vibe.

I’ve saved dozens of ornament concepts, but John and I haven’t decided which to tackle yet or exactly how we’ll adapt them. We’ll post the full how-to, materials, and finished versions when we wrap up the challenge next week. You might be wondering who else is joining Katie for this round. We invited a rotating group of guest hosts to share their takes, and we’re delighted to have:

  • Ana from ana-white.com, whose woodworking projects and practical plans are always inspiring.
  • Erin from House of Earnest, who contributed an impressive DIY orb chandelier during our first challenge and inspired us to invite her back for more.

Consider this your friendly invitation to join us: pick a pinned idea, make it your own, and share the results. We’re giving everyone the weekend to create, then we’ll regroup next Wednesday morning (the 2nd) to reveal finished projects. Last time the link-up turned into a joyful showcase of creativity, so we hope this edition will be just as inspiring. Drop by next Wednesday to see what we’ve made and to link your project so others can admire and learn from it. We might even pin a few favorites and keep the creative loop going.

To be clear: despite how often we mention Pinterest, this challenge isn’t paid or endorsed by the company. It’s a community-driven creative prompt from a few people who love to pin and make, often while indulging in some guilty-pleasure TV.
