Cozy Winter 2014 Home Tour: Seasonal Decor & Design Highlights

Filming the video tour of our showhouse progress prompted us to realize we were long overdue for an updated tour of our own home (and a lot of you have been asking for one). Since the last tour we posted was the “before” video of this house, saying we were overdue is actually an understatement. Thanks for your patience — here’s a fresh walkthrough of our still-in-progress home.

A few things you might notice in the video:

  • There are a few “disaster zones” around the house — the dining room, the guest room, and an unfinished storage room — that serve as temporary dumping grounds for items that don’t yet have a home. We kept it honest and showed the clutter as it is.
  • We paused to point out bins of baby girl clothes in the living room that Sherry plans to consign or donate. For some reason we always call out the most random details when the camera is rolling.
  • There’s a peek at our bathroom ceiling, which is currently halfway finished.
  • I handled the filming while Sherry narrated because she tends to shoot like the Blair Witch Project and I’m slightly better at keeping the conversation going without awkward pauses.
  • Sherry insists there’s nothing awkward about her narration — I like her final line the best.
  • Forgive a couple of obvious cuts: for example, when I walked down a long, dark hallway toward the laundry room, or when I accidentally smacked the camera into a closet wall and uttered an unsavory word.
  • Burger makes a cameo and stays totally chill — just keeping on with his snack like nothing’s happening.

If you want to compare, here’s our original house tour from way back in May, which was before we even moved in.

Do you ever walk around with a video or camera to capture progress and create a time capsule? It’s easy to postpone (and it feels odd while you’re doing it), but having those recordings to look back on is incredibly rewarding.

Psst — we’ve also shared video tours of our first house and our second house over the years, if you want to see more before-and-after moments from past projects.
