The last few weeks we’ve been thinking about paint non-stop. This weekend we finally put paint on the walls — and on our hands, clothes and hair too.
There were three reasons for the painting push:
- Flow: Widened doorways have made the house feel more open and connected, but our old, inconsistent paint palette (which included celedon, turquoise, seafoam, butter yellow and several browns) worked against that sense of cohesion.
- Trend: Calming neutral tones are showing up everywhere in design magazines and model homes, so it felt like the right time to replace the turquoise with a more refined palette.
- Necessity: All the demo left many patches in putty and drywall colors, so almost every room needed touch-ups anyway.
Without further ado, here’s our updated color scheme:

These are digital swatches from Glidden, so the colors may vary depending on your monitor.
I call it “updated” rather than brand new because it’s really a simplified version of our existing palette. Wishes and Water Chestnut are already in the den, and Gentle Tide is in the master bedroom — it was the first room we painted in this house and remains a favorite. We’re simply extending those hues into other rooms to create a unified look across our one-story brick ranch.
We’ll post photos of the freshly painted rooms once the new flooring goes in today. Until then, enjoy this shot of us taking a break and cheering at a UVA football game this weekend. Go Hoos!
