It happened again: our little girl is back in preschool.

The change from last year’s first-day photo nearly left us speechless. We knew she had grown, but seeing it in pictures was striking.

Since her monthly photo project wrapped up at age three, it was nice to revive another photo tradition and take a few shots. I had forgotten the funny faces that come out when you prompt a kid to “smile big!”

“No, like you’re really happy and excited.”

She’s returning to the same preschool but this year she’ll attend three mornings a week instead of two. She’s thrilled to reunite with friends, meet new teachers, and explore a classroom full of discoveries. We’re also pretty happy to get a few extra hours of quiet time for projects, work, and a little uninterrupted typing.

Our new house is about 15 minutes farther from school, so the extra driving adds up — roughly an hour for two round trips — but it’s absolutely worth it. She loves her school and couldn’t wait to see her friends again.
Where did that little catalog-model pose come from? Suddenly she’s got a confident strut and a few stylish poses.

Eventually she realized the photos were delaying her playtime, so this became her “can we go now?” face.

Then we headed off to school. Sherry found a school bag at an outlet for $2 and labeled it with a red Sharpie, since the school asks that everything be named. How did your first day of school go this year?
