Imagine our surprise when we received an email from a reader in Australia congratulating us on being featured in the Australian edition of Better Homes & Gardens!

We were completely unaware our dining area had been included, so our generous reader sent scans of the spread. We stared at the images in disbelief (I gaped while Sherry celebrated with a mix of clapping and squeals).

It turns out a photo from our Do It Yourself Magazine spread — one of BHG’s special interest publications — made its way across the globe and was picked up for the May issue. What a delightful surprise.
Not long after, we received even more Australian recognition: Real Living, another glossy Australian home magazine, included us in a list of “Blogs We Love.” We were honored to be mentioned alongside some of our favorite American blogs, and it felt great to be in such good company. We’re still a bit giddy about it (and Sherry may still be intermittently clapping and squealing).

Thanks so much for the love, Australia! We’re sending a big American hug right back (or maybe a manly fist bump — your call). If you’re reading from Australia, consider this your virtual hug — or fist bump — from us.
Side note: if you’ve ever wondered what vegemite is, we did too. A quick read helped us discover it’s more than just a lyric in an old Men at Work song — it’s a savory Australian spread with a distinct flavor that’s part of local food culture.
