Classic Marble Bathroom Remodel Guide: Timeless Tile & Design Tips

Just as we mentioned last week, Reader Redesigns are back — and we’re starting strong with Michelle’s stunning bathroom renovation. She and her husband David gutted a dated yellow bathroom, reconfigured the layout, and rebuilt the space in a calm palette of grays and crisp whites. Here’s the note she sent us:

Hi Sherry & John! Your bathroom at your first house inspired my husband and me to renovate our 1952 en-suite bathroom. We followed so many of your tips and ran into the same demolition issues, including the wire mesh — it was no fun. Thankfully the hard work is finished. I shared the big final reveal on my blog Ten June, and you can also see the whole renovation timeline there. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the inspiration! So excited that Reader Redesigns have returned! — Michelle

The transformation is dramatic. It’s almost unbelievable that the before and after photos show the same room. Here are a few of the before shots to highlight just how different the space used to be:

And now for the jaw-dropping after photos. The finished space is bright, modern, and carefully detailed:

One of the biggest changes is the shower: the team removed the old bathtub and toilet, and in their place built a generous double shower. The new shower not only adds functionality but becomes a strong focal point thanks to the carefully chosen tile work.

Michelle and David used hexagon floor tiles to anchor the shower and then repeated that pattern in other subtle details, creating a cohesive look that feels intentional and refined.

Between the soft gray vanity, the sleek fixtures, and the angled mirrors that catch the light, the finished bathroom feels both timeless and fresh. The design balances practical updates with thoughtful accents, turning a cramped, dated space into a serene and stylish en-suite.
