I’m thrilled to share Bonnie’s vine-covered barn in Santa Ynez, California — a home full of warmth, charm, and thoughtful DIY touches. From the moment you arrive, it feels welcoming and comfortable, the kind of place where guests immediately feel at ease. Let’s take a look inside.

Bonnie greets us with a friendly smile. Although we couldn’t visit in person, her photos show a home that invites lingering. Inside the entryway is a small office area where practicality meets personality: an Ikea desk and chair, a simple ladder shelf, and handmade artwork by friends and favorite artists. Quilts Bonnie sews herself add color and texture throughout, while many pieces — from the sofa to decorative accents — were found at thrift stores, giving the home a collected, lived-in feel.

The living area continues that layered, homey aesthetic. Secondhand furniture mixes with Bonnie’s handmade quilts and pillows, and a DIY driftwood wind chime hangs nearby. Natural light pours in through large windows and glass doors, creating an airy atmosphere that highlights the varied fabrics and patterns. Practical storage pieces, like an Ikea cubby behind the sofa, keep things tidy without sacrificing style.

Natural light fills the rooms, enhancing the relaxed, effortless vibe created by layered quilts and mixed-texture furnishings. The result is cozy and approachable rather than over-styled — exactly the kind of home that encourages long conversations and slow mornings.

Bonnie’s crafting nook showcases more thrifted finds: a desk, chair, and storage cubby. Handcrafted drawer shelves and framed art on the wall personalize the space, making it both functional and inspiring for creative projects.

The reading corner combines simple Ikea shelving with eclectic accents like a thrifted birdhouse and a playful pillow. White walls and furniture create a calm backdrop, while books, textiles, and woven baskets add colorful, tactile details that invite curling up with a favorite title.

One particularly delightful corner is Bonnie’s painting desk — a thrift-store find placed so she can work while gazing out the window. It’s an inspiring setup for anyone who loves to create, combining a modest, well-worn table with an expansive outdoor view.

Her bedroom is light and airy, with a headboard crafted from reclaimed pallet wood and a handmade quilt that anchors the room. Bonnie also created the nest-themed wall art and stag motif that add personal charm above the bed. The overall effect is layered and serene, blending DIY spirit with thoughtful design.

The other side of the bedroom features a refreshed thrifted dresser and patchwork wall art Bonnie assembled herself. These small, creative updates highlight how secondhand pieces can be transformed into something beautiful and unique.

Outside, the backyard feels like a little retreat. A pergola draped in wisteria creates a peaceful shaded area, complete with Ikea table and chairs softened by handmade cushions. Bonnie also built a hammock and planted the climbing vines herself, creating a restful outdoor room that seems tailor-made for slow afternoons and gentle conversation.

Bonnie generously created a free printable for visitors to download, available in multiple colors for anyone who wants a small keepsake of her aesthetic. Her generosity and creativity shine throughout the home, making it a place that feels both personal and inviting.

Thank you to Bonnie for opening her home to us. Picking a favorite spot is tough, but the pergola covered in wisteria and the sunny painting desk stand out — both inspire a desire to slow down and create. Which part of the house speaks to you most?
