First off, a big wet internet kiss to everyone for the outpouring of excitement and kind words about yesterday’s announcement. We’re thrilled to share this new chapter with you — there may have been a few misty eyes around here.
Speaking of sniffles, can you smell that? Spring is here, and that means it’s time for the Pinterest Challenge (not sponsored — just Katie Bower’s brilliant idea to stop pinning and start doing). The challenge began nearly two years ago when Katie called and suggested we each make one project each season inspired by something we’d pinned. So dust off your paint-streaked flip-flops and join the DIY party.

The only rule is to put your own spin on a pinned idea and credit the original creator — whether it was an Anthropologie find or a crafty blog post that sparked the idea. We love projects from sites with “Pin It” buttons since they clearly enjoy being shared. Your project can be anything: big or small, decor, sewing, cooking, or something entirely different.
Over the past challenges we’ve tried a variety of projects: a clothespin light, homemade ornaments, a beanbag pouf for Clara, DIY art, a leaning chalkboard, and hallway board & batten. This spring, with pollen in the air and spring in our step, we decided to tackle something that’s been on our to-do list for over a year: window boxes.

A few front window boxes should add dimension and soft greenery to our long, boxy ranch. With the house on the market (just one day so far — ha!), we hope window boxes will be an easy, welcoming upgrade that draws buyers’ eyes more than another piece of Pinterest art would. We’ll save furniture and larger makeovers for our next place.
On Pinterest I’ve saved two window-box images: one purely for inspiration (those store-bought boxes are beautiful but pricey) and a tutorial for making your own, which we might follow if we can’t find affordable ready-made options.

We’ve already started hunting for the right materials and boxes, so it’s officially on. You might be wondering who else is joining us for this Pinterest Challenge. Each time we invite guest hosts who’ve done something fun in a previous challenge. This round we’re excited to have:
-
Emily from Sparkle Meets Pop (last time she got her glitter on with great results)
-
Renee from Red Bird Blue (her previous project was a clever iPod dock)

So with pollen in my hair and a smile on my face, I invite you to join our spring Pinterest Challenge. Put your own twist on a pinned idea and come back next Wednesday morning (the 8th) to share your project. We’ll link up everyone’s submissions and show what we made as well. If you’re already plotting a project, is it food, a craft, sewing, painting, furniture, or maybe something outdoorsy? Whatever it is, we can’t wait to see what you create.
