Charming Bright House Tour: Light-Filled Home Walkthrough

We’re back with another House Crashing visit, this time in Westover Hills, Richmond. Lori and her husband Greg welcomed us into their lovely home, and we couldn’t resist bringing our camera to capture the light-filled rooms and thoughtful details.

Lori is expecting a baby in August, yet the home is immaculate. Stepping through the front door you’re greeted by a bright, sun-drenched entry and a sweeping staircase that sets the tone for the rest of the house.

To the right of the staircase is the living room, a space defined by abundant natural light, roomy proportions, tall ceilings, and substantial molding. An armoire tucked against one wall doubles as a hidden home office—closed when not in use, it keeps the room feeling tidy and uncluttered.

The fireplace is a focal point: painted white brick with delicate framed butterflies above, it brings charm and a crisp, classic look to the room.

The kitchen is a standout. After knocking down a wall and adding a family room to the back of the house, Lori and Greg created an open, graceful layout. White cabinetry paired with black granite counters gives the space a timeless, elegant feel.

Kitchen

The large butcher block island is a showstopper—solid, heavy wood with a well-worn patina that adds rustic warmth to the otherwise sleek kitchen. It was a Craigslist find and lends character and balance to the space.

Beyond the kitchen, the family room addition is cozy and light-filled, anchored by a comfortable sectional and floor-to-ceiling windows that create a sunroom-like atmosphere.

The room features a custom built-in wall of cabinetry for books, storage, and media. A flat-screen TV is integrated neatly into the design, and thoughtful finds—like an affordable slipper chair from Target—prove stylish furniture doesn’t need to be expensive.

Built-in cabinetry

Off the main living area, a charming half bathroom uses vintage boxes mounted on the wall to corral toilet paper and towels—a clever, decorative storage solution.

The dining room melds rustic farmhouse elements with chic touches. High curtains and a gilded chandelier elevate the space, and a large blue glass jar adds a bold decorative accent.

The guest bedroom is serene and inviting, painted in soft tones and filled with light. A reupholstered budget find became a standout chair, while a pale yellow dresser contributes to the relaxed, tone-on-tone palette.

Outside, the private backyard is set up for gatherings with a hammock, chiminea, and an expanded patio off the kitchen that provides a full outdoor dining area. Their dog Maggie patrols the yard, making it a cozy family space.
