Day 15: Progress Check and Next Steps

Yesterday marked two weeks since we moved into our new house, so we thought it was a good time to share an updated look at the progress in each room — and what still needs work.

We’re proud of a few early wins: we painted Clara’s room, bought and assembled a new bed, removed several bi-fold doors, raised the shower curtain, and unpacked most of our boxes — not bad considering we had family commitments over the holidays. Still, the house feels unsettled. Most of the essentials have a place (at least for now), but there are still piles of items waiting for a permanent home: picture frames, tools, rugs, and other odds and ends. Below are the rooms that feel the most presentable so far.

The living room (which will become the dining room) is finally clear of boxes. We even organized some items in the base cabinets of the built-ins, though the displayed objects are just tucked in for now, so don’t judge the styling yet:

Here’s the kitchen:

And the family room:

Next is the sunroom:

Clara’s room is coming together — curtains are up, but we still need art and a new light fixture:

Some rooms are functional but still feel disheveled. Our master bedroom needs closet organization, a nightstand solution, and another dresser:

The office has a pile of tools that need a permanent home:

The laundry/mudroom could use more built-in storage and organizational solutions:

Then there are rooms that are essentially closed-door spaces for visitors because they’re not useful yet and have become temporary dumping grounds. The guest room is one of them:

And the playroom / future kids’ bedroom isn’t kid-ready yet:

So that’s the update two weeks in. There’s still plenty to do, and we’re working on a big to-do list to share — partly to help bring order to my type-A partner’s planning. Next stop: Home Depot for supplies and more organizing.
