It’s gettin’ hot in here, so we added bamboo blinds. I’m practically singing as I installed each of the four shades — while John politely rolled his eyes.

The change wasn’t just about blocking heat — it was about privacy. Our sunroom has an entire wall of windows, which makes it bright and lovely, but not very private during the day. We decided that bamboo blinds combined with the patio fence we recently added outside would create a cozy, private feel. The fence covers the lower portion of the view, and the blinds handle what’s left above.

We chose the same bamboo shades we used in our office — they’re affordable and have the warm, natural texture we wanted. This time we needed four 30″ blinds; they were available online, so we ordered them and took advantage of free shipping.
Once they arrived, installation was straightforward. I drilled and hung them using a simple method we’ve used before, and immediately the room felt more finished. The blinds add warmth and texture, making the sunroom feel inviting rather than exposed.

Here are some after photos that show how the blinds and the fence work together. The fence blocks the bottom two-thirds of the window line of sight from the neighboring house, and the bamboo blinds cover the top third — daytime privacy achieved.

Beyond privacy, we love how the bamboo complements other wood elements in the room. The warm tones tie in with the side table and a thrifted wooden doily stretcher mounted on the wall — a small find that adds character.

The blinds also balance the homemade bike-print frames on the opposite wall, creating cohesion across the space. Together these pieces give the room personality while keeping the look relaxed and natural.

Here’s the view of the room from the living room sliding door before we added the blinds:

And here’s how it looks now with the blinds installed — much more inviting and polished:

When we first moved in the room felt chopped up and unfinished. Over time, with a few strategic updates, it’s become a cohesive, comfortable space.

I’m considering painting the round table’s dainty legs a darker tone — maybe chocolate or charcoal — to better set off the granite top, and the orange strip under the sliding door will get painted white to match the trim. Little tweaks like these will continue to refine the space.
Are you working on any window updates at your place? Let’s talk blinds — they’re an easy change that can make a big difference in both privacy and style.
