Our Nest Featured in The Nest Magazine: Home Tour & Story

And not only did we make the magazine — we were on the cover. We were ecstatic when we found out and may have screamed with excitement for a few hours.

We’ve been thrilled about this feature ever since it was shot back in November, when the team also filmed our video house tour. It was a busy day: Burger met a crew of ten people, including a hair and make-up artist, a wardrobe stylist and assistant, the photographer and his two assistants, the creative director, the prop stylist and assistant, and a videographer.

They dressed us (those weren’t our clothes, though Burger’s collar is definitely his), powdered our faces (not Burger’s), and asked us to smile for the camera. With so many eyes and lenses on us we felt self-conscious, but we did our best to keep cool and behave like it was just another ordinary day at Casa Petersik.

Many of you have already seen the spread after it landed in your mailboxes. The funny part is we hadn’t received our copy yet — they said it would arrive around March 30th, but it still hadn’t shown up — so a friend graciously brought hers over this weekend so we could finally see it. The Nest is a subscription-only publication that’s sent to more than 200,000 newlyweds and isn’t sold in stores, so we were understandably thrilled when our friend called to say she had a copy.

Now that we’ve seen the story, we couldn’t be happier. We were relieved to find our awkwardness didn’t show as much as we feared. The photographer, David A. Land, captured our home beautifully, and the Nest’s team did an excellent job assembling the feature. And of course Burger stole the show — just look at that cover photo and the way he’s making eye contact. He may very well be destined for stardom.

Psst: we also shared a behind-the-scenes post that details how a national magazine captures those glossy shots.
