How to knit
the lacy leaf stitch

The heat is
coming and it’s time to go from chunkier stitches and heavier fibers to cooler
ones. Today we bring you this lacy stitch with a leaf motif, to give your
clothes a summery touch. This stitch is simple, since it hardly uses any
increases or decreases, but the end result makes it seem much more difficult
than it is.

To knit this stitch we used our new Bamboo Lace fiber in the color Orchid, thanks to the type of material, the final fabric will be endowed with a special shine and drape. We knitted our swatch with a pair of our size 2.5 bamboo knitting needles.

Before
getting into the explanation, we leave you a short list with the stitches that
it will be useful to know (or review):

To make
this stitch pattern you need to cast on multiple of 12 stitches + 1. We cast on
37 stitches for our example.

Let’s get started! Row 1: knit 2 together, *knit 4, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 4, 1 center double decrease*. Repeat from * to * until there are 12 stitches left. Knit 4, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 4, 1 SKPO (slip, knit, pass over).

Row 2 and all even laps: purl all stitches.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you reach row 8.

Row 9: knit 1, *yarn over, knit 4, 1 center double decrease, knit 4, yarn over, knit 1*. Repeat from * a * until the end of the row.

Repeat rows 9 and 10 until you reach row 16.

Repeat these rows as many times needed to reach your desired length.

It’s that
easy to see how little by little the fabric takes the shape of leaves. Now you
just have to think about what garment you are going to use this new stitch for.
