Dining Room with Board and Batten and Deep Blue Walls

The boldest color we’ve used on any wall is Martha Stewart’s Plumage—an accent we covered the walls with in our guest room. We loved it from the moment we painted, so when Jackie sent photos of her dining room makeover featuring Plumage and vibrant teal and lime accents, we were excited to share it. Here’s her note:

When we moved into this house the dining room had only a table and a bamboo armoire. We didn’t even have dining chairs at first.

Over the past six months I focused on finishing the space before the holidays. The room is full of DIY projects: silhouette art, board-and-batten walls, mercury glass vases, a jute-wrapped monogram, and my favorite—the DIY linear crystal chandelier.

After making slipcovers for the head chairs from tablecloths, I followed your dyeing tutorial to color the side chairs so they would coordinate with the room.

It took two attempts to get the color just right, but your post gave me confidence to try again and I’m glad I did.

I’ve posted step-by-step guides to each DIY project on my blog, Teal & Lime (I do like other colors too). Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing your process—I’ve loved watching you transform your home.” — Jackie

Dining table and decor

It’s easy to see why the teal-and-lime palette grabbed our attention. The room feels fresh, bold, and personal without being over the top. The silhouettes paired with the curvy wood mirror create a playful contrast, while the board-and-batten adds structure and traditional charm. Making slipcovers from tablecloths and dying chairs to match were clever, budget-friendly moves that elevated the whole look.

We love the mix of polished details and handmade touches: the jute-wrapped monogram and mercury glass vases add texture, the linear crystal chandelier brings sparkle, and the silhouette art lends a quirky, bespoke feel. It’s the kind of room that balances personality with polish—inviting for dinner and interesting to explore visually.

So, what’s your favorite part? Mine is the dapper dog silhouette, and Sherry’s pick is the curvy wood mirror, followed closely by that homemade chandelier. Thanks for sharing this inspiring transformation, Jackie—beautiful work and smart DIYs all around.
