When Isabel and Thomas sent photos of their DIY mobile—similar to the one featured in a past nursery makeover—we couldn’t resist sharing the delightful results. Here’s what they wrote:
You’ve inspired yet another project. Since you recently finished your nursery, this felt timely. I learned to make folded Moravian stars from an online tutorial in three different sizes and printed a variety of patterned papers myself. I used a couple of reference sites for the folding technique, and my husband devised the actual hangers for the mobile—he’s amazing!
With just paper, scissors, Mod Podge, a sponge brush, needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, floral wire, a needle, and fishing line, we created this mobile for under $10. My husband and I had a wonderful time making it for our son. Enjoy! — Isabel and Thomas

Isn’t that a charming way to add a personalized touch to a nursery? By making their own mobile, Isabel and Thomas controlled every detail—from color palette to scale and shape—while keeping costs incredibly low. Their project shows that thoughtful, handcrafted decor can be affordable and meaningful.
If you’re inspired to make your own mobile, here are a few quick tips based on their approach:
- Choose patterned or colored paper that complements your nursery palette.
- Make stars in several sizes to create visual interest and balance.
- Use lightweight materials and secure connections so the mobile hangs safely.
- Experiment with different hanger designs—simple wire frames or decorative hoops both work well.
What color scheme would you pick for a mobile like this? Gray and yellow, navy and turquoise, orange and eggplant, or pink and lime are all playful options—pick what best suits your space and personality.
Thanks to Isabel and Thomas for sharing their photos and tips. Their project is a lovely reminder that a little creativity and teamwork can produce beautiful, budget-friendly nursery decor.
