Freebie Alert: I Touch My Surface — Tips for Surface Skin Care

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

The headline isn’t meant to be provocative — it’s simply the clearest way to identify the DuPont giveaway that has been appearing on several of our favorite blogs. Now it’s here on YHL. We’re excited to announce: the DuPont iPod Touch giveaway. DuPont is giving one lucky reader a free iPod Touch, so consider your Monday brightened.

DuPont recently released a free iPhone and iPod Touch app called mySurface. The app helps you explore countertop options from DuPont’s Corian and Zodiaq product lines, letting you preview materials and finishes in a simple, visual interface. While it would have been especially handy during our kitchen renovation, it’s still proving useful now for bathroom inspiration and general design exploration. Below are some screenshots from the app and a few other home-improvement apps we’ve enjoyed:

DuPont kindly provided us with an iPod Touch to test the app and explore other helpful design and DIY tools. Here are a few of the standout apps we’ve been using for home projects and organization:

Benjamin Moore’s ColorCapture (free) is a great tool for translating colors from photos into paint options. Snap a picture or upload an image and the app identifies matching paint shades and suggests coordinating color palettes. It’s perfect for matching paint to fabric, artwork, or even that favorite photo of your dog.

SwedeShop (99 cents) is a handy unofficial IKEA organizer that simplifies shopping trips. It stores item lists, prices, and helps you track your budget so you can skip scribbling notes with a pencil in the showroom.

Color and material options

For note-taking and project organization we’ve been using Evernote (free). It combines voice memos, text notes, photos, and screen captures into a searchable, taggable system synced with an online account. Evernote makes it easier to keep design ideas, measurements, and shopping lists in one place.

We’ve also enjoyed craigsphone, an app version of Craigslist. While the content mirrors the website, the app streamlines browsing for local real estate, yard sales, and used furniture — often making it quicker to find bargains. The app is free, though it may tempt you into more shopping than intended.
