How We Chose a Beach House Color — Using a Strange Method

Phew—you made it through the wilds of the internet to the show notes for Episode #31 of Young House Love Has A Podcast. This week we didn’t find love in a hopeless place, but we did find a beach house paint color in an unexpected spot. After several weeks, multiple test swatches and more than 1,500 comments, we finally landed on an exterior color for the beach house—and the final inspiration came from one of the most random places. We also chat with blogger and designer Jenny Komenda (a Domino contributor) about the realities of running a design business and the decor trends she’s spotting for the year. Plus: we’re into some delightfully strange discoveries this week. More on that below.

Update

  • We’ll be speaking Thursday, February 2 in Palm Springs, CA at Alt Summit. It sold out fast, but if you have tickets we can’t wait to see you—hello warm weather!

What’s Not

  • Here’s an article that lists everything buried in Nickelodeon’s 1992 time capsule for a fun blast-from-the-past read.
  • Also, if you’re curious how TV resolution looked 25 years ago, we included a video of the event below.

Jenny Komenda

  • You can follow Jenny on her blog Little Green Notebook and on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest to see her latest projects.
  • Domino features a full house tour and several of Jenny’s projects, including a clever IKEA wardrobe hack showcased during our conversation.
  • Jenny mentioned a helpful book on business mindset: The Big Enough Company.
  • If you missed our earlier episode about stepping back from blogging, that full conversation is in Episode 14.
