Photobooth Picture Tradition: Capturing Family Moments Year After Year

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We hope you have a delightful day—whether it’s romantic, playful, low-key or full of quirky fun—as you celebrate someone special. Sherry and I are about to exchange gifts over breakfast (more on that Monday), then we’ll follow our long-standing tradition: visiting a photobooth at a nearby restaurant to mark the occasion and enjoy dessert.

Long before we included a photobooth at our wedding, we frequented the New York Deli in Richmond for anniversaries, birthdays, and any milestone worth commemorating. Their black-and-white four-frame strips are perfect for catching a mix of goofy faces, sweet moments and my favorite—the surprised, caught-off-guard look. We display photostrips in little vignettes around the house, including a small cup on the floating frames behind our dining table. We also keep a white leatherbound book filled with more than 100 strips from our wedding, which guests love to flip through.

After the photobooth visit I promised Sherry we’d watch Confessions of a Shopaholic, and later we’re heading to a group Valentine’s gathering. What are your plans? Do you have any special traditions you repeat each year? Whatever you’re doing today, I hope cupid treats you well and your celebration is full of laughter and warmth.

And no, that’s not another ceramic animal in the photo above—it’s a puffin candle from our Alaskan honeymoon. Sherry does have her eye on a certain ceramic mammal, though, so stay tuned…
