Remember when I shared my first-of-the-year flowers a little while back as a sweet monthly gift from the hubs? Those blooms had a touch of New Year’s sparkle thanks to a cake stand full of gleaming silver ornaments, and a few weeks later I remixed them with a less-holiday look since January was already underway.
Those inexpensive grocery-store flowers lasted through most of January, but February arrived faster than expected and we realized we hadn’t picked up any flowers for that month. On the last weekend of February, while grocery shopping, we made sure a bouquet went into the cart.
This time we got a lot for very little: $4.99 bought enough stems to make five separate arrangements. I was drawn to a bunch of pretty pink carnations that stretched a long way—so much so that I’m starting to think they might be my favorite flower. Carnations tend to last a long time, too, so I was excited for weeks of enjoyment. Here’s the first bouquet of pink carnations bringing cheerful sweetness to my desk by the window:

I also arranged three smaller bouquets for the kitchen window ledge using a few inexpensive Ikea bud vases I had on hand. They look just as lovely in crisp white bud vases as they do in the pale pink vase on my desk.

Finally, I grouped the shorter stems and trimmings—cut off to shape the other arrangements—into a small glass candle holder for the half bath. Determined not to waste a single bloom, I tucked them into that tiny vessel, and they should open up even more over the next few days.

All five bouquets cost less than a dollar each and instantly added a bright, springlike vibe to three different rooms in our home. A splash of pink in spots I pass every day feels like such an inexpensive, mood-lifting upgrade. It’s funny that we often fall behind on our monthly flowers, because each time we finally bring them home I’m reminded how much they transform a space for so little money.
What are you drawn to these days when it comes to flowers or houseplants? Are you bringing home potted tulips or daffodils yet? Still enchanted by roses after Valentine’s Day? I’d love to hear what’s making your home feel fresh and cheerful this season.
