Here’s the washer and dryer update you’ve all been asking for. Yesterday our front-loading set arrived — they turned out to be floor models because Lowe’s accidentally sold the units we had originally purchased — but they arrived in near-perfect condition. The dryer is flawless, and the washer has only a tiny scratch on the top that’s barely visible. Overall, we’re thrilled that Lowe’s mixed things up: the floor models look just as good and the mistake saved us another $150, bringing our total discount on the pair to $500. According to the store, we even got them below cost.
Of course we didn’t stop there. Last night we went back to the store to speak with a manager about securing a warranty on both appliances. Since we hadn’t requested floor models and they’d been on display, we were concerned about any wear and tear, so we asked if they would provide a warranty. We expected them to offer something modest — maybe coverage for one appliance or to split the cost — but the manager surprised us. After a bit of negotiation and a computer restriction that wouldn’t allow the warranty to be given completely free, we left with a four-year protection plan on both appliances for just $13. The manager worked it down to just over ten dollars in the system, which is an incredible value for that level of coverage.
Below are quick before (during demo) and after images of our laundry nook. A fresh coat of paint and some bamboo blinds made a big difference, and we’re almost finished. Next on the list is hiding the exposed plugs on the back wall for a cleaner look.
