It’s December 1st, which means it’s officially time to start the holiday decorating. We kicked things off last Sunday by setting up our artificial (reusable) Christmas tree. It’s not fully decorated with ornaments yet, but if you want to jump into the season with us, here’s a short video that captures the process — broken strand of lights and all — and hopefully sparks a bit of festive spirit.
For readers who prefer text and photos, there isn’t a long photo walkthrough this time. The short version: we assembled the tree (after a couple of attempts to figure out which piece is the base), laid down two sheepskin rugs as a makeshift tree skirt, and plugged it in — only to find a section of lights was out. Sigh. The video speeds through everything with upbeat holiday music, so even the little setbacks feel cheerful. Also, Sherry’s baby bump is pretty visible in the footage, so bump-watchers might enjoy that extra detail.
In better news, we’ve since fixed the problem with the lights. Even better: once the tree is fully ornamented, we’ll share more photos and a follow-up video. We still need to hunt for — or make — a few ornaments in a specific, hard-to-find color because Sherry is planning a punchy new color scheme this year. Stay tuned for that reveal.
How about you — have you started decorating yet? We were surprised to see many houses already fully lit up, with roofline lights, porch displays, and giant trees glowing in windows the day after Thanksgiving. We’re taking a more relaxed pace this year, but we’ll ramp up the decorating over the coming weeks and share the progress. After all, ’tis the season.
