Sunlit Bouquet: Bright Floral Arrangements for Any Occasion

As many of you know, each month we treat ourselves to an inexpensive—or sometimes free—bouquet to keep the home feeling fresh. The tradition actually began with a thoughtful Christmas gift from my husband. This month John’s solo grocery run produced a cheerful surprise: a $4 bouquet of yellow alstroemerias he picked up along with milk, eggs, and a few staples. It was the first time he’d gone grocery shopping without me, since Clara was only two and a half weeks old and the girls stayed home. He survived the outing and came back with flowers, which was a lovely little victory.

The bouquet looks great on the console table by the front door—perfect timing since friends and family have been stopping by to meet baby Clara. The bright yellow blooms add a cheerful pop of color that quietly signals, yes, we have a newborn, but the house hasn’t entirely fallen apart. (Some other rooms might disagree, but the flowers do their best.)

We love alstroemerias because they’re an excellent value among grocery-store bouquets. With minimal care—fresh water every few days and stems recut on an angle about every eight days—they often last three to four weeks. These yellow ones feel especially sunny and fresh; we’ve usually bought soft pinks in the past, but the yellow brings a different, happy energy.

Instead of a bold vase, we used a simple square glass vessel we already had. It balances nicely with the glass greenhouse on the other side of the console and allows the yellow flowers and their fresh green leaves to be the focal point. The understated vase keeps the arrangement effortless and modern.

That’s our bloom-of-the-month update. Have you been enjoying alstroemerias or other budget-friendly flowers lately? Do you have free blossoms in your yard you can clip for a quick vase on the kitchen counter or living room table? We’d love to hear about your latest floral finds and small ways you brighten your home.
