This morning we hurried home after our big appearance on CBS6 to watch our segment on the DVR. The good news: no spit-bubble incidents, no crying or running off the stage. We even managed to say a few coherent sentences. Victory!
We were pretty nervous when we found out we were the very first interview of the show, but in hindsight that probably helped — it was better than waiting an hour and letting the suspense build. It was great to drop in, get mic’d, do the interview, and be back in the car within an hour. The crew and hosts were wonderfully friendly, which really helped us relax. The whole set felt very laid-back; we expected someone to shout “quiet on the set” or to see intense countdowns, but it was more like blink and you’re on air, blink again and it’s over. Thank goodness for that. Below is the clip — watch it on the embedded player.
In the interview they used our old web address (though the subtitle showed the right one) and they accidentally added an extra “n” to our last name — “Petersnik” made us giggle for a while when we noticed it at home — but we’re thrilled we survived live TV and lived to tell the tale. There’s something surprisingly intimidating about trying to get everything right on the first take. We’re more aware of that now that we make weekly videos and often need multiple takes to sound natural. Still, we did it! Even Burger glanced sideways at the TV when we played it back. Maybe having TV cred will make him listen to us more?
As a bonus, it was fascinating to watch the weather reporter point to empty space on a green screen and then see, when we viewed the playback, that her gestures matched the graphics perfectly. It’s impressive how she knows where everything will appear against that giant green backdrop — the on-air weather magic really amazed us.
We hope you enjoy the clip. Questions, comments, TV experiences, or wardrobe critiques — feel free to share!
