Yes, you read the headline correctly. This blog formerly known as This Young House has changed its name and URL. Although the decision wasn’t ours alone (lawyers were involved), the change has injected a surprising amount of excitement into our lives.

On the bright side, we’ve turned lemons into lemonade. We now have a fresh name and a new URL, while the content and spirit of the site remain the same. Please update your bookmarks and links to younghouselove.com and visit us there from now on.

Here’s what happened. On July 7th we were celebrating our two-year wedding anniversary, and the next day we received a cease-and-desist letter from a major home-improvement magazine/TV brand whose name resembles our old blog’s title. Their claim was that consumers might confuse the two brands, so they demanded we immediately stop using our old name and URL. That was surprising — in nearly two years of blogging, no one had ever asked if we were connected to that company.
The notice sent us through a rollercoaster of emotions. First, fear and sadness: would we lose nearly two years of work or be forced into expensive litigation? Then confusion and frustration: the same publication had complimented our work just months earlier. Our site, logo, scale, and approach were different, and we’re simply two people with a personal blog, not a corporate enterprise. Still, facing a large industry player in court was not a realistic or desirable option for a two-person blog. The mismatch in resources made the choice clear—no thanks.

After consulting with an attorney, we decided the smartest path forward was to avoid a lengthy legal battle and rebrand. We agreed that distancing ourselves from any possible association was the most practical route. Once we embraced the change, something unexpected happened: we got energized. Not angry energy, but inspired energy — this felt like an opportunity to do something even better.
We brainstormed names (some quirky ideas reflected our love of white paint, ceramic animals, and our feisty chihuahua), then settled on a name that honored our roots while capturing what the old URL lacked: our affection for our home. We secured the new domain through a budget-friendly hosting deal and launched our new blog identity: Young House Love. The name clicked immediately — it captures that puppy-love feeling you get for the house you’re lovingly improving.

Less than a week later we’re welcoming you to our new online home. We’re still unpacking and smoothing out details, so please be patient during the transition. Expect the same mix of weekly giveaways (they resume tomorrow), before-and-afters, step-by-step tutorials, and honest storytelling — all served up with the same enthusiasm, perhaps even more.
As a bit of housekeeping, please update your bookmarks and feeds to point to younghouselove.com and its feed (www.younghouselove.com/feed). If you’ve linked to specific posts on thisyounghouse, you can redirect them by replacing “thisyounghouse” with “younghouselove” in the URL and leaving the rest unchanged. Since we’re legally using Young House Love going forward, changing any references from “This Young House” to “Young House Love” helps our new site grow and keeps everything consistent.

If you follow us on social media, please switch to our new Young House Love Twitter and Facebook pages. Those accounts will be the place for bonus content and behind-the-scenes updates going forward. Our old accounts will become occasional reminders to move over, so unfollowing or unfanning the old pages after you switch will help tidy things up.
We’d be so grateful if you’d tell friends, family, readers, coworkers — anyone who might enjoy the blog — about our new address. We created a 120 x 120 button for bloggers who’d like to link to younghouselove.com from their sidebar and help spread the word. Thanks so much for your support — you’re the reason Young House Love exists, and we can’t wait to keep sharing the projects and stories we love.
