Unboxing Our New West Elm Duvet: First Impressions and Review

Remember the West Elm duvet cover we ordered on sale last week? It arrived!

Here it is in our bedroom:

We’ll add some bolder accent pillows later, but we already love the cover. It’s a touch greener than we expected, and it actually brings back the blue-green tone we once used on the back of our built-ins. We stuffed it with a super-cushy king-sized Ikea comforter (there are a lot of similar options, so we’re not 100% sure which one). We’re also glad we stopped using a full/queen cover on our queen bed — the extra fabric makes a big difference, so no one has an arm or leg sticking out in the cold.

And we’re not the only ones enjoying the new bedding:

Ignore the chihuahua foot nibbling — it happens a lot. He grooms himself like a cat. Here he is looking a bit tidier:

Most of the time Burger looks like this: completely buried beneath the covers.

With the new duvet in place, we’re itching to paint the walls. The photos show the duvet color in several ways, but this image is pretty close to how it looks in person — a bold teal.

We’re leaning toward a few swatches that will contrast with the duvet rather than match it exactly. We want something darker and smokier than we usually choose so the bed stands out, along with the crown molding we inherited in this room.

We don’t have a final winner yet — we started with many swatches and are slowly narrowing them down. We considered emphasizing the duvet’s warm gold-yellow tones on the walls, but we both prefer a cooler gray-blue-green for the bedroom. Hopefully we’ll pick a color and paint that large room soon. It’s the biggest bedroom we’ve painted so far (14 x 14 feet), and I’m trying to drum up the energy to tackle it.

Did anyone else get their West Elm after-sale order yet? We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly ours arrived.
