It’s been more than six months since our last video house tour, and because several readers asked for an update, we finally tidied up the house, shoved a few things into closets, and shot an all-in-one-take walkthrough. At first we thought there wasn’t much new to show, but as we walked through we noticed a lot of changes since the previous tour: a freshly redone hall bathroom, a storage room converted into a playroom, new lighting in the living and dining rooms, numerous updates in the sunroom, a new fireplace facade and a fresh kitchen color, plus hallway board & batten, among other small tweaks. So without further ado, come walk around the house with us. I’ll chat while John operates the camera (you don’t want me holding it, trust me).
Notes about the video:
- We filmed this on our Nikon D3200. We mainly use it as a still camera, but it does double duty for videos.
- I’m not sick in this one — breaking the unfortunate streak from the last two tours. Huzzah!
- A towel falling to the floor made me laugh while we were filming. Watching it back, it’s not that funny; maybe I just get hyper or nervous during tours.
- If the brass doorknobs in the laundry room bother you, I’ve ORB’d every other knob in the house — those are on my list next.
Below is our previous video tour from September so you can see the progression. I procrastinate on making these, but when I rewatch them I’m grateful we document the house this way — they’re like biannual time capsules.
Do you ever record video tours of your house to watch how it evolves? Our method is simple: John walks around with the camera while I narrate beside him. It works for us — if he narrated, you’d get long pauses and blunt descriptions, and if I held the camera, the footage would likely make a few viewers queasy. So this two-person approach gives a livelier, more natural walkthrough.
If you watched the latest tour and are wondering what remains on our to-do list, we keep an updated rundown here. Upcoming projects include a guest bathroom update and some porch and carport work. We’re excited to tackle those next.
Psst — you can browse our other house tour videos from since we moved in: here, here, here, here, and here. There’s also an outside tour from last summer. Viva la video camera!
