Window Shopping: Quiet Moments Before Your Home Tour

We promised more window-shopping posts, so while we’re preparing for our November book tour we decided to keep the fun going by checking out a few boutiques and shops. But before we even left town, Target surprised us with a fresh batch of stylish finds—so we did a little in-store snooping and snapped photos to share. These quick store strolls are just for fun (no sponsorships), and we love documenting the small things that catch our eye. Ready to wander through Target with us?

First up: a set of green glass vases with a lovely rustic vibe. The embossed lettering and slightly aged finish make them feel both modern and industrial—perfect for holiday displays on a mantel or a dining table when Christmas rolls around.

Target leaned into metallics this season—lots of gilded pieces like mirrors, vases, cups, and trays. The gold accents feel festive and versatile, especially for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s gatherings.

I couldn’t resist snapping a photo of this cheeky frame. It made me smile and seemed made for a photo of Burger or another favorite pet.

This pillow—part of The Shops at Target collection—caught my eye at $24.99. The mix of wood-grain pattern and metallic gold felt very Domino-esque. Imagine it on a deep charcoal velvet sofa—very dramatic.

These sculptural gold lamps ($44) continue the metallic theme. They have a three-dimensional quality that would add sculptural interest to a side table or console. And if gold isn’t your jam, a quick spray paint job could tailor them to any nursery or bedroom color palette.

I was tempted by more lamps—holiday season made everything seem extra enticing—but I resisted buying since I don’t have the perfect spot for them right now. Instead I snapped photos so someone else could take them home and enjoy them.

There was also this ceramic dog that totally gave off a “her dog” energy—fun, whimsical, and begging to be adopted. Sadly, it was sold out that day.

Another end-cap from The Shops at Target showed up with coordinated pieces. We actually bought one item from this collection on an earlier trip—can you guess which?

Yep—John immediately grabbed the USA-shaped cutting board. We don’t plan to use it strictly for cutting; it’s more of a little project-piece for the house. We’ll share how we end up styling it when we finish.

There was a full/queen duvet for $49 that felt summery but adaptable. With a few white faux-fur pillows and a deep chocolate or charcoal throw, it could work through colder months too.

A chunky, knitted pot holder made the list—simple, charming, and the kind of practical find that makes a cute hostess gift when paired with homemade treats or kitchen essentials.

Another Shops at Target end-cap featured bedding by Patch NYC. I liked the moody, graphic vibes—especially the striped sheet set tucked on the lower right.

Clearance baskets at $5 each felt like a steal. They’d be perfect for a mudroom, bathroom closet, or pantry to corral everyday clutter like pasta boxes or canned goods.

I also liked a simple arrow-pattern notebook—arrows might be the next-chevron. Clean, graphic, and useful for jotting down lists on the fly.

The rug selection was one of the highlights: large, lively designs around $129 that read modern with an Aztec-inspired flair. They could be bold in the right room and make a real statement.

There were also nubby neutral rugs—tan, tan-and-gray combos, and deep charcoal tufted styles that felt soft and resembled pricier options from higher-end retailers.

On the whimsical side, I found a Halloween “vampiress” character kit—complete with choker, red glasses, and a tiny hat. It’s delightfully silly and perfect for someone who loves a kitschy costume.

Method soaps with Orla Kiely packaging always catch my eye. They’re pretty enough to include in a gift or stocking, and the packaging makes them feel special despite being everyday essentials.

In the kids’ section, a row of colorful button-up shirts in the boys’ rack made me smile—bright, cheerful pieces that would look adorable paired with a tulle skirt or layered under sweaters.

Psst—just to be clear, we weren’t paid or perked for this post. We genuinely enjoy taking you along on these little shopping adventures.
