Winter Tradition: Crafting Your Summer Bucket List

Here’s a small tradition John and I started last year: in the depths of winter we make a list of things we want to do in the summer.

We hide the list somewhere we won’t look until the weather warms up again. We usually tape it to a bottle of sunscreen, but you could tuck it into a bathing suit drawer or slip it into a cooler you only use during summer.

It sounds odd, but in winter we think of countless warm-weather activities we can’t do in the cold. Then summer arrives and those ideas often fade from memory. Instead of trusting our unreliable recollection, we make a real note to rediscover when the sun returns.

This year’s list ranges from Frisbee golf to a tour of the Capitol and even building a rain barrel. It’s a simple, cheerful way to plan outdoor time without pressure. Because the list is about things we genuinely want to try, checking items off never feels like a chore—just a reason to enjoy the season. Happy listing!
