$1,400 Kitchen Makeover: Stylish Remodel on a Budget

Kitchen renovation deals like this are rare. Here’s Christina’s note:

We still have a few finishing touches to complete, but I’m too excited not to share our budget-friendly kitchen makeover. My husband Trevor and I did all the work ourselves, which saved a lot, but we also hunted for low-cost and even free items that helped transform our small kitchen. The before was pretty bleak: we removed the ’70s wall oven and cooktop and replaced them with a white glass-top range a friend gave us after upgrading. We added an above-range microwave we found on sale for $160. Trevor tore out the old cabinets and the dated soffit, and we installed white stock cabinets from Lowe’s for about $900. We replaced the dark faux-wood countertops with stock countertops from Lowe’s for just $70. We pulled up the old, worn white linoleum and installed wood-look laminate from Lumber Liquidators at $0.68 per square foot, extending the flooring into the living and dining rooms as well. The floor for all three rooms, including underlayment, cost only $268. Finally, we painted using colors I found on your site: Ruffled Feathers and Eastern Lighthouse by Glidden. Altogether, our tiny kitchen received a dramatic update for roughly $1,400! – Christina

Those before-and-after photos speak for themselves — and at this price, they’re even more impressive. Sticking to a budget and making thoughtful choices made a big difference. Great work, Christina and Trevor! Christina also mentioned that her refreshed kitchen and home will be listed for sale this spring in Mount Vernon, Iowa, so anyone interested in the area should keep an eye out.
