#167: Have The Moving Plans Changed?

With everything that is going on right now, we are the first to admit that house stuff feels trivial, but we are keeping our podcast going in the hopes that it is a welcome escape for anyone tuning in (it is certainly a pleasant distraction for us). This week we are answering the most common question we have gotten in the last few days: how the coronavirus is impacting our Florida move and our house sales (spoiler alert: one contract has fallen through). We are also having a strangely thorough discussion about high-tech toilets and bidets. Plus, we are sharing two things that are helping us make the most of being home with kids 24/7.
You can also find this episode on your go-to podcast listening app, like Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, TuneIn Radio, Stitcher, and Spotify.
What is New
- Note: As promised we have rounded up ways that you can assist people during the pandemic at the bottom of this post

- In case you need the backstory on some of the news we updated you on in today’s episode, these links will be helpful:
Can We Simply Talk About Bidets?
- Here is the article from NPR’s Planet Money that opened the floodgates to this discussion, which is entitled Why America Is Losing The Toilet Race
- Pictured above is a Toto Washlet, which is available on sites like Wayfair and Amazon at various price points and models (some over $1000! Simply for the seat!)
- And below is the video on the Toto Washlet website that dances around the subject matter quite a lot.
- On the other hand, the Tushy website takes a much cheekier approach to embracing the topic (pun most certainly intended).
- The Tushy (and Tushy Spa with temperature control) are significantly cheaper and do not require an outlet, but obviously have far fewer features than some of the pricier bidets.
- Also slow clap for the Tushy Ottoman for spinning the term “ottoman” in one of the most creative ways we have ever seen (it is in short a competitor to the Squatty Potty. Speaking of which, this bamboo version of the Squatty Potty is not bad looking.
- We also mentioned our past experience with cloth diapering our kids (more on that here), including adding a sprayer attachment to our toilet. They do not seem to sell the bumGenius-brand version we used anymore (at least I cannot find it online anywhere) but this one seems similar.
- Last but not least, I regretfully have to link to the Travel John, um, disposable urinal bags that Sherry ordered in that denial/bargaining stage of things about a week ago. Yowza.
We are Digging
- Here is a peek into the Lego Masters show we have been watching as a family on Hulu (regularly on Fox, but I also so available for purchase on YouTube and Amazon).
- Oh and if you also want to track your or your family’s walks, this is the free Map My Walk app we have been using.
Ways To Assist During The Pandemic
- As promised, we are also shouting out some ways that you can assist others, from the heroic people on the front lines providing medical care to restaurant workers and the Red Cross
- If you are able to donate N95 masks (check your Hands-on supplies and donate them all! Even one or two can save lives!) here is all the info you need
- Blood banks are experiencing a severe shortage on blood, so here is how you can make a large difference & save lives
- We have seen so many good ideas for how to assist small businesses, like buying gift cards to use later (call them up & order them over the phone) and this article about supporting independent bookstores.
- This is a strong write up full of other ways you can assist. It is remarkable to see all of the helpers coming out of the woodwork. We are all in this together.
If you are looking for something we have dug in a past episode, but do not remember which show notes to click into, here is a master list of everything we have been digging from all of our past episodes. You can also see all the books we have recommended on our Book Club page.
And lastly, a big thank you to Rothy’s for sponsoring this episode. Check out their shoes and their new bags (also made from repurposed plastic water bottles!) at Rothys.com/YHL where you get free shipping and returns on every order!

Thanks for listening, folks!
