When we created a custom mood board for Chantel in Canada a few months ago, we were eager to see the finished living room. She’s back with beautiful after photos and this note:
Thank you again for all your help with our living room in January. We followed all of your advice to the letter (except for the pillows because they wanted to charge me $200 to ship to Canada). I hope our replacements are up to your standards! We love the transformation, and everyone who’s visited has loved it, too. I don’t know how you did it, but you managed to make it feel like a beachy summer day in our living room, even though there’s two feet of snow outside! And we hope you’re up for another transformation. We’ll be sending you before shots and a plea for help for our master bedroom later this week. Thanks again! – Chantel
We’re thrilled she’s so happy with the result. To set the scene, here’s what the room looked like back in January before the makeover:

Chantel asked for a “beachy casual” living room with pops of green and blue to complement a large artwork she already owned for above the sofa. We put together a mood board for her with those elements in mind (more details in our original post):
After implementing the plan, here’s the room now:

A few thoughtful changes transformed the space. Replacing Chantel’s old leather sofa with a slipcovered piece from Ikea and painting the walls a soft blue turned the room from stark white to airy and beach-inspired. Painting the TV shelf white and adding a coordinating piece beneath it made the media area feel integrated and less visually heavy. Textural additions—a woven rug, printed curtains, and matching woven table lamps beside the sofa—reinforced the relaxed yet refined vibe Chantel wanted.

We also recommended painting the niche above the fireplace a slightly deeper blue to showcase the delicate mobile she chose. That small change created a natural focal point and highlighted the three-dimensional artwork, adding an airy, ethereal touch to the room.

Chantel finished the room with pillows that echo the calming palette used throughout the space. Their stitched detail complements the curtain pattern and ties the look together perfectly.

Thank you for the lovely after photos, Chantel—your living room looks warm, breezy, and inviting. It’s hard to believe there’s snow outside with a space like that! What do you think of the transformation? Which detail stands out to you most—the mobile or the leafy curtains?
Update: We no longer have time to accept commissioned mood board clients (we now produce general inspiration boards instead). If that ever changes, we’ll announce it.
