When Robyn sent over photos of her charming nursery, full of thoughtful details, we knew we had to share. Below is the letter she wrote about the transformation:
We welcomed our first baby on 9/9/09 and I wanted to share his nursery. It began as a guest room, but a shower leak soaked the berber carpet. Many months pregnant, my husband tore out the carpet and we installed tile from Home Depot for about $75. We painted one wall Shark Fin blue, installed some old West Elm shelves I’d kept for years, used stored Pier 1 curtains, moved a recliner in from the living room, and reused a rug that used to be in my office.
The dresser is a 1950s find from Craigslist for $35 — we bolted the changing pad to the back and slid it into the closet alcove. The bookshelf is from Target and the dragonfly magnetic wall art is from Umbra. The crib is a DiVinci gifted by the grandmother, the egg lamp is by J. Schatz (a gift from friends), and the bedding is Dwell, which I scored on eBay at about 40% off. Altogether we spent roughly $700 on flooring, paint, a mattress, bedding, a fan (about $50 on sale at Restoration Hardware), a side table ($40 on clearance at Hobby Lobby), a paper star mobile, our NYC and BKLYN posters, and the Craigslist dresser. Take care and congratulations on your little one on the way! — Robyn

And here’s the nursery after Robyn worked her maternal magic:

Isn’t it a sweet, cheerful space to raise a bambino? From the dragonfly magnets to the origami mobile, the room feels warm and welcoming. Thanks for sharing these photos, Robyn!

Note: In the photos, Robyn’s crib has a bumper, but she removed it once her son began sleeping in the crib because of SIDS-related concerns. Parenting involves many personal choices, and every family makes decisions that feel right for them.
