You may have heard of Ikea. This week they generously provided a $350 gift card for our giveaway, which came as an exciting surprise. Alongside the gift card, Ikea is running “The Life Improvement Project,” a program that will award one person $100,000 to take a year-long sabbatical to help others—whether that means starting a nonprofit, volunteering full-time, or launching another community-focused effort. They’re also hosting free in-store seminars about improving your life through better living spaces.

How the giveaway worked:
- PRIZE: A $350 gift card to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on the post with the words “IKEA Me!”
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us what you would do if you could spend one year helping others. Would you open an after-school program, volunteer at a homeless shelter, rescue animals, or pursue another idea?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 27th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One (see update below)
- PRIZE SHIPS: United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per email address. The winner was selected using random.org and announced as an update to this post. Please check back for the announcement.
******************************
We were blown away by nearly 11,000 entries. Because of that enthusiastic response, Ikea decided to expand the giveaway and award not one, not two, but three $350 gift cards—more than $1,000 in total. Thank you, Ikea!
Here are the three winners, chosen with random.org:
- Alyssa Allen — Alyssa would spend her Life Improvement Project moving her family to a place where they could help address the poverty crisis.
- NEPD — NEPD planned to donate wedding florist services free of charge during their year of service.
- Jill — Jill would spend a year working with the Wildlife Conservation Society.
Note: We were not paid or perked for hosting this giveaway. We host giveaways to thank our readers. Photos courtesy of Ikea.
