Teen Bedroom Bathroom Makeover Ideas for a Stylish Teenager

You might remember the quick $200 makeover we did for our niece Olivia last October. To refresh your memory, here are the before photos:

And here are the after photos from that $200 refresh (that budget covered the desk, chair, headboard, dresser, curtains, and other items):

Olivia’s bedroom looked great after that refresh, but her attached bathroom still felt a little bland:

With a coat of avocado-green paint and a few playful, inexpensive accessories we turned it into a cheerful space perfect for a nine-year-old:

It’s hard to believe this is the same bathroom dressed up for Olivia’s ninth birthday. She actually asked for a bathroom makeover as her gift, which we thought was adorable. John’s sister even wrapped the door to make the reveal extra special:

We added a small green chandelier over the sink so Olivia would have something pretty to look at while brushing her teeth. It was a clearance find at Marshall’s for just $30:

To move the room away from builder white, we painted the walls Glidden’s Celery Sticks. The color felt fresh and lively, especially paired with splashes of hot pink to coordinate with her bedroom. A round rug from Ross added a playful touch:

We finished the look with a colorful shower curtain from Target that introduced pattern and tied together the rainbow rug and towels:

The reveal was a hit—Olivia squealed with delight when she saw her brand-new bathroom filled with cheerful colors and patterns. It felt just right for a happy nine-year-old:

Here’s the budget breakdown for the mini makeover. It shows how a little paint and a few well-chosen pieces can make a big difference:

  • Chandelier (clearance at Marshall’s): $30.00
  • Rug (clearance at Ross): $4.99
  • Shower curtain (Target): $29.99
  • Paint (Glidden, Celery Sticks): $17.60
  • Hot pink towels (Target): gifted
  • Door decorating supplies: already owned
  • GRAND TOTAL: $82.58

That total left room in the budget for extras like the bejeweled chandelier, which could easily cost that much on its own. We were thrilled with how the Glidden Celery Sticks paint looked in person—it’s a modern green that reads like a fresh avocado and works well beyond kid spaces. All in all it was a simple, affordable makeover that made a little girl very happy. Have you ever done a small bathroom refresh on a tight budget? It’s amazing what a few thoughtful touches can do.
