Keep Renovation Dust Out: How to Use Plastic Tarps Effectively

To prepare for the crew installing the new wall this week, we covered our belongings with plastic to protect them from the drywall and brick dust that would be produced during cutting. Because the work would take three to four days, we set up a small temporary “living bubble” so we could continue using a computer and watching TV while the work went on. We used painter’s tape and an inexpensive plastic tarp from a home center to keep dust out — dust will find its way everywhere without proper precautions. The taped tarp paid off, keeping our things clean and making the disruption of renovation more manageable.

Below, Sherry demonstrates our temporary safety zone.
