We asked. You voted. We listened.
Recently we put out a ballot to choose a new color for our bland bookcase, and you helped pick the winner.
There was support for a few subtle, neutral choices as well as a couple of new color ideas, but the majority selected green. Below is the finished bookcase in its new hue.
We decided not to go with the muted, gray-leaning green from option #3. After seeing the kitchen that inspired our choice and feeling bolder, we picked Glidden’s “Zen Mist.” It’s a clearer green with a subtle lime-yellow undertone that livens the room without overpowering it. The process was simple: one coat of primer followed by two coats of semi-gloss paint, and the transformation was complete.
We love the result. Moving away from the reddish wood tone made a big difference — the new color coordinates with the green accents on the dining room wall while still letting white objects on the shelves stand out. The change feels fresh and cohesive, and it opened up the room in a way the previous finish didn’t.
What do you think? Are you happy with the vote, or would you demand a recount? We appreciate the input that pushed us out of our white-washed comfort zone.
