We’re definitely a little too old for trick-or-treating, so last weekend we did a grown-up version: a leisurely stroll through a historic downtown neighborhood to admire Halloween and autumn decorations. We didn’t encounter a lot of over-the-top displays (wait until Christmas for that), but we did spot a few subtle, stylish arrangements worth sharing. Let the virtual house-hopping begin.
This simple pumpkin-and-mums grouping made us think of our own front steps—if only we had a grand door, classic columns, and wide stairs to match.

One home taught us not to stop at a basic autumn wreath when you can add a playful spook through the window. The ghost we saw was painted on the back of a rolling shade that appears to be brought out each October—such a clever DIY idea. Boo right back at you.

Another house balanced the whimsical, kitschy side of Halloween—the spider and the ghost—with classic fall accents: an abundance of pumpkins, including tiny ones lined across the transom above the door. It was a charming blend of spooky and seasonal.

Before we move on from Halloween for the year, here’s the photo Jenn asked for of our hand-carved jack-o’-lanterns, all lit up and ready for candy-seeking neighborhood ghosts and goblins.

Happy Halloween, everyone! Stay safe tonight—and enjoy your candy (Snickers and Reese’s fans, we see you).
