Some parents tell us it’s a challenge to find inspiring bedrooms for boys, so we’re always thrilled when a standout room lands in our inbox. Dacia and Jordan’s nursery felt genuinely “out of this world”—pun intended. Below is Dacia’s note describing how they created this special space.
Hi John & Sherry! I wanted to share my nursery with you guys. When we found out that our very first wee one was going to be a little dude, I immediately took off with designing the nursery. I had a plan all worked out, and then one night my hubby (who normally couldn’t give two hoots about decorating) sweetly said, “Would you mind if I helped design the nursery?” Being the emotional pregnant woman I was, the fact that he wanted to help design a room for our son melted my heart and I threw all my plans out the window! So we started planning things out together, and I have to say, I’m so happy we did it together because I love the direction it took!

My husband has a fascination with all things astronomy, so we infused that theme throughout the nursery. Instead of a traditional painted mural, we created a three-dimensional planet wall using embroidery hoops for a playful, textured display.

The palette leans on grays and blues for a calm, modern feel, and to add a cheerful accent I refinished a changing table I found on Craigslist for $30. I also updated basic navy curtains with simple star embellishments to echo the space motif.

Opposite the crib we placed a futon so both Mom and Dad have comfortable seating when they’re in the room together. Above the futon hangs a piece of art I designed that explains the meaning behind our son’s name. We plan to add framed family photos on either side once we have them ready.

Sherry, I totally get what you meant when you said Clara’s nursery was your favorite room in your old house—I’ve already fallen hard for this space. We love spending time in it with our son! – Dacia
This nursery balances thoughtful DIY touches with a cohesive theme. The embroidery hoop “planet” mural is both creative and tactile, and smaller details like star-embellished curtains and a space-inspired rug reinforce the concept without overwhelming the room. The color scheme keeps things serene while the colorful changing table adds personality and warmth.
UPDATE: Dacia also shared a blog post with additional photos and details about the room. Thanks to Dacia and Jordan for letting us see their little astronaut’s nursery!
