We have a theory: roughly 75% of the things we bring into our home are white. To test that idea, here are some of our recent favorite finds and purchases.
One of our all-time favorite additions is a ceramic playmate for the concrete greyhound John gave me for Valentine’s Day. This jumbo ceramic dog was an incredible Home Goods find at just $29 — about $436 less than a very similar piece I found at a boutique.

Score. Now our new ceramic companion can keep watch in the sunroom while his concrete older brother stands guard in the living room.
While carrying that new four-legged friend through the store, another little treasure practically leapt into my arms: a delicate ceramic votive holder. I’d seen an identical item in a gift shop a few weeks earlier priced at $16, so finding this one for $4.95 felt like a steal.

The next gift I want to show off came from my best friend Cat for my birthday: a set of elegant glass canisters that look like they could be from West Elm. They’re versatile — perfect for holding bath salts, snacks, or pantry staples — and, of course, we filled them with white essentials: flour, sugar, and salt.

Finally, here’s an update on the ever-growing wall of white frames in our third bedroom. We hung my priceless birthday silhouette of Burger, along with a black-and-white sketch of our house and a humorous computer illustration of Burger that my crafty friend Heather created on my Facebook wall. The mix of pieces makes the wall feel personal and cohesive.

So far, our white-centric hypothesis holds up pretty well. That said, we’re still tempted by colorful exceptions — like a fun blue rug from Pottery Barn that we’ve been eyeing — so the rule isn’t absolute. But for now, white seems to dominate our home decor choices.
