Just like our previous roundup posts for 2024, 2025, and 2026, this page will serve as a single place to track every 2027 Color of the Year as brands make their choices. Color forecasting and trend work are serious efforts for paint and design companies, but part of the fun for the rest of us is guessing what they’ll pick and watching the reactions. This year we are watching announcements from 14 brands. As of August 25, 2026, two companies have revealed their 2027 Color of the Year. We’ll add more entries as brands unveil their selections so this list remains current and comprehensive.

Valspar’s 2027 Color of the Year
Valspar opened the season with a steely blue called Cottage Door. The company describes it as a trans-seasonal shade, suited for reflective, intentional spaces and environments that favor authenticity and calm. Valspar recommends pairing Cottage Door with soft creams, muted pinks, and warm grays, and suggests using it alongside natural materials and textured patterns to create layered, lived-in rooms.
This marks Valspar’s fourth Color of the Year. Their choices often lean toward blue-based shades that feel calm and dependable—an aesthetic that has been consistent across their selections.
Dutch Boy’s 2027 Color of the Year
Dutch Boy followed with Deep Rooted, an earthy, orange-toned hue. The brand frames this color as part of a desire for grounding and connection—tones that evoke warmth and a return to more honest, tactile living. The language Dutch Boy uses to describe Deep Rooted aligns with broader themes in other announcements that emphasize authenticity and emotional comfort.
Looking back at Dutch Boy’s past picks shows a willingness to vary between bold and restrained, warm and cool. Their COTY selections often favor saturated statement colors with enough softness to work in interior settings.
Our 2027 Color of the Year Predictions
Each year we make three predictions for colors we expect to appear across the industry’s picks. It’s a lighthearted ritual—part trend tracking and part hopeful wish that designers and brands will embrace more vivid hues. For transparency, one of us saw the Valspar announcement before choosing predictions, while the other made selections blind to keep things fair.
