Completed in a Flurry: Quick Winter Cleanup Tips

Richmond had its first hint of winter yesterday with a light dusting of snow. It didn’t stick, so life carried on as usual — no snow day for John.

Mostly, things were unaffected. The light precipitation kept the installer indoors rather than outside cutting crown molding and cabinet baseboards, so progress was limited to finishing the last few cabinets, sliding the dishwasher into place, and hanging 99% of the range hood. He still needs to add the stainless-steel “chimney” piece that will cover the big pipe running up through the ceiling. These aren’t the most dramatic progress photos, but here they are. Note: the dishwasher and hood are still protected by a film that will be removed once the job’s complete, revealing their stainless-steel finish. Also, the installer’s tools and materials are scattered around the space:

We’re hoping today will be the last major workday, but with crown molding, baseboards, doors, hardware, and microwave installation still on the list, we wouldn’t be surprised if it carries into Friday. There’s also at least one more day of work in about a week when the reordered corner cabinet arrives — it will go where the stove is currently positioned, and the stove will shift left to sit under the new hood. After that, the countertop team can come measure for our new granite. It feels like we’re at step 426 of this long process (okay, a slight exaggeration, but not by much).
