You may remember Carla from when we helped her transform her kitchen with a fresh coat of paint and a few simple updates. When she sent over her charming DIY chalkboard wall calendar, we knew we had to share it. Here’s her note:
I had to pass along our latest update – we made a chalkboard wall calendar in our kitchen! We were inspired by Martha Stewart’s chalkboard calendar idea and thought it would be perfect for our home. It turned out to be fairly simple – all you need is black chalkboard paint, foam brushes, white paint (leftover from our cabinet project), unsanded tile grout, plenty of painter’s tape, and a shoebox lid for mixing. Martha’s directions for custom chalkboard paint were easy to follow and we even managed the different shaded blocks. It was helpful to see a previous post about Lyzz’s chalkboard door while we were figuring things out. We hope you enjoy the pictures! Thanks for the wonderful blog and congrats again on your baby girl news!! -Carla
Carla began by applying a base coat of black chalkboard paint to the wall, creating a durable surface for chalk and colored accents:

Next she taped off a grid of squares using painter’s tape, preparing each section for custom-colored chalkboard paint. Careful taping ensures crisp lines and a tidy calendar layout:

With the grid complete and the colors applied, the finished calendar looks both functional and beautiful—an ideal family command center that brings color and organization to the kitchen:

Carla’s project is a great example of how a few simple supplies and a bit of patience can transform an ordinary wall into a practical and attractive centerpiece. The custom chalkboard colors add personality while the taped grid keeps things neat and usable. Thanks for sharing the photos, Carla—wonderful job! Anyone else inspired to try this in their home now that Carla has shown how well it can turn out?
