You never cease to amaze us, and Cassity’s project is a perfect example. She and her husband needed a headboard, didn’t want to buy one, had some scrap cabinet doors on hand and turned them into something beautiful. Here’s her story:
My husband and I love to remodel together. Forget regular hobbies—let’s rip out a wall (so romantic!). We recently finished a project and I wanted to share it. We hadn’t had a headboard for years and couldn’t bring ourselves to pay retail prices.

So I finally decided to build one. Now I have no idea why we waited so long! We used mostly recycled materials—specifically some kitchen cabinet doors. That’s right: cabinet doors. They’re pre-made raised-panel pieces, which saved us from needing expensive router bits or a table saw.

I’ve posted a full tutorial on my blog Remodelaholic for anyone who wants to try it themselves.

It was surprisingly simple, and the reward was having the exact headboard we wanted without spending a fortune. Thanks for the fun! —Cassity
What a clever idea. The finished piece looks so polished it’s easy to forget the panels started life as cabinet doors. Thank you to Cassity for sharing a detailed step-by-step tutorial so others can follow along. If you need a headboard, this is an affordable, stylish option that’s well worth trying—maybe even this weekend. Happy building!
