When one of our readers shared this elegant, timeless holiday idea, we had to pass it along. Here is RA’s note:
After last Christmas I bought a set of ten silver, circular frame ornaments on sale from Red Envelope—about $15 for the lot. I planned to put black-and-white photos in them, but the frames sat in their box for almost a year. A month ago I finally decided to use them to showcase a memorable picture from each year my husband and I have been together. I only had time to prepare a few, so I made the idea retroactive and chose four black-and-white prints: a wedding photo from 2005, a home-improvement snapshot from 2006, a picture of our brand-new puppy from 2007, and one of me crossing the finish line at my first 5K in 2008. We love our new family tradition, and maybe one day we’ll dedicate a whole tree to frame ornaments that mark each year we’ve spent together! —RA

What a charming idea. From finding discounted frame ornaments after the holidays to turning them into an annual ritual, this suggestion is simple, affordable, and meaningful. Framing one photo per year creates a thoughtful way to celebrate milestones—weddings, new pets, big projects, races, and other moments worth remembering. If you can find frame ornaments on sale, consider starting your own collection to commemorate each year. It’s an easy project that makes for a sentimental decoration and a lovely conversation piece on the tree. Happy memory-making!
