So it’s been a while since we resurrected our two-post “tackle it together” series, where we invite you to take on a home project alongside us. Last July we cleaned out our garages, and today we’re turning our attention to closets.
Call it nesting or early spring cleaning—whatever the reason, Sherry and I recently felt the urge to purge. With our baby due in about ten weeks and gifts on the way, now is the perfect time to donate or discard forgotten clothing and miscellaneous items that are claiming precious closet real estate. We also want to reorganize what stays so everything is easier to find. My side of the closet had become especially half-folded and messy (men only fold so much):

We’re giving in to that urge this weekend and inviting you to do the same in your own home. You don’t need to join us in person—just tackle your own closets and share the progress if you like.
And even if your clothes are perfectly pressed and sorted, we’re planning to attack other storage spots too. Our hall closet is a mix of keepsakes and a growing stash of “emergency” gift bags and boxes—more than anyone really needs.

There’s also the shelf space above the laundry nook that we hide behind bamboo blinds.

We conceal a jumble of tools, luggage, wrapping paper, and, undoubtedly, a fair bit of dust.

Now that our less-organized nooks and crannies are out in the open, we’ve motivated ourselves to have everything tidier by Monday. So who’s with us? What needs purging or reorganizing at your place this weekend—one junk drawer or an entire floor? We’re here to virtually rally you and cheer you on. Besides a cleaner, more organized home, you’ll reclaim real square footage—for storage or simply to let your house breathe again. There’s also the simple satisfaction of a job well done; we like to celebrate with ice cream.
We’ll share our results next week along with the steps we used to clean and organize, and we can’t wait to hear how it goes for you. Good luck—and good riddance to closet clutter.
