Fresh DIY Project Ideas to Try Now

We’re thrilled to announce that True Value invited us to join their DIY blog squad—and we made the cut!

We still can’t believe it. Being included alongside so many talented bloggers has us equal parts excited and humbled. Here are the fellow squad members we’re honored to join:

  • Katie at All Bower Power
  • Layla & Kevin from The Lettered Cottage
  • Josh at Bungalow 23
  • Brian & Paul from The Handyguys Podcast

That’s a lineup of creative, skilled DIYers—so narrowing down which projects to tackle hasn’t exactly been easy. Expect a mix of planned projects (yes, we’re finally addressing that unfinished basement) and a few spontaneous updates as inspiration strikes. Over the next several months we’ll be sharing a series of DIY projects completed with the help of a $1,000 True Value gift card.

We swung by our local True Value to see what they carry and were impressed by the selection of tools, materials, and accessories that can help bring home projects to life. The staff were welcoming, and they even humorously offered a small cart for our pup Burger—who, naturally, loved the attention.

Speaking of Burger—just look at that wagging tail. But back to the DIY news: if you’ve had a project go sideways, you might want to enter True Value’s DIY Drama contest. They’re awarding $5,000 to the winner; all you need to do is share a story about a home improvement attempt that didn’t end as planned.

Tell the whole story—what went wrong, what you learned, and how you might tackle it differently next time. You could win the grand prize and some well-deserved recognition for surviving (and learning from) a DIY mishap.

We’ll be documenting each step of our True Value projects here: what we planned, what the surprises were, how we used the materials, and whether a $1,000 budget can stretch far enough for the results we want. Expect practical tips, honest updates, and plenty of photos as we move through each project.

Disclosure: True Value invited us to be one of five bloggers on their DIY Squad and provided materials for these projects. They compensated us for supplies and our time to write about the experience, but our opinions are entirely our own and we were not paid to provide positive comments.

Stay tuned—big projects and small victories are on the way.
