The other night Sherry and I invented a little challenge: we’d each craft something using ordinary household items, but with a twist — the other person picked the three required objects. It wasn’t meant to be a serious competition, but we did set a few ground rules:
- You can use anything available, but the three chosen items must be incorporated.
- The “challengee” may choose one item before seeing the other two chosen by the “challenger.”
- No spending money.
- Whatever we make will be shared on the blog, no matter how silly it turns out.
We played rock-paper-scissors and I lost, so I went first. I used my right to pick one object and chose a bright length of string/twine — functional and colorful, and a good starting point for something artsy. Sherry, being dramatic, hid her two chosen objects under a bowl before revealing them to me.
We decided to videotape the challenge, which was a good call because the final result is tricky to describe. The video captures the whole process and a few fun moments along the way. Some teasers to pique your interest:
- I asked Sherry to help mainly so she could show off her adorable baby bump on camera.
- Both Burger and Clara make surprise cameos.
- One of Sherry’s chosen items came straight from the fridge.
- Sherry tried to convince me not to include a certain sound effect at the end of the video — the actual sound the project made when it finished — but I insisted on keeping it. My challenge, my video.
My craft turned out better than I expected. Now I just have to find a spot for it — somewhere it won’t go bad. Oh, and one more thing…

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS, Y’ALL. Rest assured, I don’t actually craft with mayonnaise. We were aiming to top last year’s April Fools rap-fest with something equally ridiculous. If you enjoy the occasional prank, we’ve pulled a few in previous years that are fun to revisit — old traditions, we guess. We hope you’re enjoying harmless pranks (and better music) today!
